The Middle East Librarians Association (MELA) unequivocally condemns the police brutality that led to the death of Jîna “Mahsa” Amini and the violent response by government forces to the ensuing protests. We stand in solidarity with the Iranian people, particularly those who are protesting ethnic discrimination, gender discrimination and violence, and support the right of bodily autonomy for Iranian women as well as the protection of human rights (including the right of access to information, currently being repressed by the regime’s internet blackout) for all Iranians.
