This bill is intended to discourage trafficking in stolen Afghan archeological and ethnological materials, such as items that disappeared during the recent looting of the National Museum in Kabul. It could affect libraries considering the acquisition of Afghan manuscripts, for example.
The bill was introduced June 22, 2004 and referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means; no hearings have been held and no action is currently scheduled. (Test of the bill is not yet available on Thomas as of this date).
