Committee on Cataloging
Committee to identify and consider issues, make recommendations, and work with other appropriate bodies on matters related to the descriptive and subject cataloging, classification, and content designation of materials from and about the Middle East.
Committee on Education
Committee to further the initial and ongoing training of Middle East area studies librarians by providing, in collaboration with library science and other faculty, learning opportunities in varied formats including workshops, special courses, or distance learning.
Committee on Iraqi Libraries
Committee to coordinate MELA's response to the damage and destruction suffered by libraries in Iraq during and after the war in March and April 2003.
David H. Partington Award Committee
Through this Committee MELA grants public and tangible recognition to its members who have displayed a high standard of excellence and accomplishments in and contributions to the field of Middle East librarianship, librarianship in general, and the world of scholarship.
George Atiyeh Prize Committee
This committee selects the winner of the annual George Atiyeh Prize which was established in honor of one of our founding members. The applicants must be currently enrolled students in an accredited library education program. The winner receives a stipend to attend the annual MELA and MESA meetings.
M. Lesley Wilkins Education AwardCommittee
This committee selects in alternate years an individual to receive a cash prize and a citation for outstanding contributions to education and mentoring in Middle East Librarianship.
Reference & Research Committee
This committee will identify areas for needed reference and research aids and to initiate projects to accomplish the preparation and production of these materials.
